Week 4 (Due by Thursday, February 22nd) This week we are investigating why Ray Bradbury had a famous feud with Rod Sterling the creator of The Twilight Zone.  1. Watch the Twilight Zone which features a story written by Ray Bradbury. 2. Read at least 10 pages of the written version of “I Sing the Body Electric” by Ray Bradbury. We will finish reading it next week.  3. Write down 3 differences you see between the TV Show and written version.  We will dig deeper into this next week.

Week 3 (Due Thursday, February 15th) Watch both of the Ray Bradbury videos.  Read the short story, “The Happiness Machine”. Be very careful when you read the end because it is deceptive. It took me several reads to catch the trick ending. Answer one of these three questions and make sure you use quotes from the text to support your answer.  1. What actually happened at the end of the story? 2. Which character do you most identify with and why? 3. What is the theme or moral of the story?

We had a technological issue this week with our new online class. Please go back to the Edmodo. If you are a new student with week, I will help you get an account on Monday.   Week Two (Due on February 8th, 2018)   On Edmodo read the Ray Bradbury short story and watch both videos. Find a theme in the short story and comment on it.     Have an amazing Week Two!

Online Sci-Fi and Fantasy Literature class Week Two (Due on February 8th, 2018) Week One (Due 2/1/18) you were supposed to come to school and get your online paperwork signed. If you have not done this you are receiving a 50% on Week One. If you did this you need to now set up your email on campus. For Week Two you need to sign in to a school computer with your new email. Mrs. Henderson, Mrs. Neff, or Mrs. Telling can help you. When you login you will go to your new inbox or the Teams site and read your short story. When you read it please comment on the questions posted there.   Have an amazing Week Two!

Week 14 (Due January 18th, 2018) This is our last week in Semester One. If you are continuing with this class for the second ½ credit, please email or speak to Mrs. Henderson. In Semester Two we will continue to look at a variety of authors, read several fun novels and focus on Ray Bradbury. Week One of Semester Two Starts on January 26th, 2018. This week: Read the second excerpt from “1984”. Watch Video 1 Watch video 2 Write two paragraphs called, “I think we are (or are not) living in Oceania…”

Welcome back to Science Fiction and Fantasy Literature. We are focusing on short stories and new authors until the end of the semester. Next semester we will be looking at literature for a younger audience and reading the Martian Chronicles.  Week 13 (Due January 11th, 2018) 1. In one short paragraph tell me what you think the main message of Out of the Silent Planet is and why.  2. Read the summary of the book “1984”. We will not be reading the entire book but we will study its significance and read excerpts from it.  3. Read the attached “PART ONE” from 1984. And tell me which words or phrases you have heard/read before.
